Welds break
"I’ve owned two of these grid lifters, and both have failed at the welds. The first lasted about eight months before one of the lower welds broke and the circular portion became detached. Once that happened, it became difficult, if not impossible, to rotate the lower part perpendicular to the grate, which is necessary for the tool to actually lift the grid. I assumed the failure was a fluke and purchased another one. Unfortunately, the second lifter has now failed as well. This time the weld broke at the top—a different failure point, but with essentially the same result: the lower portion can no longer be rotated properly to engage and lift the grate. I don’t mind paying a premium price for a premium product, but I do expect it to be reasonably durable. Having two lifters fail at separate welds under normal use suggests a durability problem with the design or construction rather than an isolated defect."
