Position Overview
The Testing Engineer at Big Green Egg will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, performance, and safety of our products through comprehensive testing processes. You will work closely with our R&D and manufacturing teams to ensure our ceramic cookers, accessories, and related products meet the highest standards before reaching our customers. This role requires an individual with a passion for product quality and innovation, as well as an in-depth understanding of testing methodologies, materials, and the grilling experience.
Key Responsibilities
Product Testing
- Conduct detailed testing on a range of Big Green Egg products (ceramic cookers, accessories, and tools) to evaluate performance, durability, safety, and usability.
- Perform extreme heat testing, material durability, weather resistance, and functionality assessments.
Test Plan Development and Execution
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans that assess products under real-world and extreme conditions.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality benchmarks as well as industry and regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution
- Identify potential product issues or failures, diagnose problems, and collaborate with engineering and design teams to resolve them before product release.
Collaboration with Product Development Teams
- Work closely with R&D, design, and manufacturing teams to provide feedback on product designs, ensuring that the product meets performance and safety standards before production.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Analyze testing data to draw conclusions and generate detailed test reports.
- Share findings with cross-functional teams to recommend improvements or changes to product design and performance.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure that all products meet or exceed relevant industry standards, such as UL, CSA, and other safety certifications.
Quality Assurance Best Practices
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of internal testing protocols, procedures, and quality control practices.
Must Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Design, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Previous experience in product testing, preferably in consumer goods, outdoor products, or BBQ-related items.
- Hands-on experience with Big Green Egg products or similar ceramic cookers and BBQ products.
- Experience with CAD software or other design tools to support testing and feedback processes.
- A passion for grilling and a deep understanding of the consumer experience related to outdoor cooking.
- Familiarity with testing standards and certifications (e.g., ASTM, UL, CSA).
- Strong understanding of materials (e.g., ceramics, metals, heat-resistant coatings) and their performance characteristics.
- Proficiency in the use of testing tools and equipment, including thermal cameras, pressure testers, and mechanical testing apparatus.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Work Requirements
Sedentary work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
