Chiminea FAQs
- Due to a limited supply that will be releasing throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2024, the Chiminea is not guaranteed to be available at your local Big Green Egg dealer. The best way to get one is to work with your local dealer.
- A chiminea does not direct much heat downward, but the occasional ember or ash will happen with any fire. Chiminea’s are not recommended for use on a wooden deck. If you plan on moving your chiminea frequently, flexible deck protectors, hearth pads or grill mats are lightweight and easily movable. If you want a permanent hearth pad then use cement patio blocks, sometimes called pavers, available at any local home store.
- To light a chiminea, place kindling and fire starters in the center, ignite them with a long match or lighter, and gradually add larger pieces of wood as the fire builds.
- To clean your chiminea, allow it to cool completely and remove any ash that has come over the halfway point of the lava rocks. Use a mild detergent and water solution to wipe down the exterior surfaces, followed by a rinse with clean water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the ceramic surface.
- The chiminea is intended for the burning of firewood or small manufactured logs. Seasoned hardwood such as oak creates the cleanest burning, most efficient fire in the chiminea. 12-14 inches (30 – 35cm) in length are ideal.
- Big Green Egg Chimineas are constructed using the same premium ceramics as our EGGs, so they are built to withstand the elements. However, exposure to the elements could lead to an increase in visible dirt and grime. If you wish to purchase a cover, Big Green Egg Cover type H (LINK HERE) will protect your chiminea from the elements once the cap is removed.
