Natural Lump Charcoal

Big Green Egg charcoal is made from a selection of 100% hardwoods. We do not add petroleum products and chemicals to our charcoal, since they can adversely affect the flavor of food. Natural lump charcoal burns hotter and cleaner and lights faster and easier than briquettes (briquettes often contain chemical additives, coal, limestone, paper binders, sawdust, starch or scrap lumber). Never use lighter fluid; with the use of either our electric lighter or our natural fire starters, lump charcoal is ready in minutes. The thick ceramic walls make the EGG very fuel efficient; you'll use less lump charcoal than you would if cooking with briquettes. Another advantage of pure lump charcoal is that it leaves little ash so less frequent cleaning out of the ash is required. When you finish cooking, just close the dampers to snuff out the fire and you'll preserve any unburned charcoal for your next cookout. To reuse, simply stir the remaining charcoal to allow ash to fall under the fire grate, add a few handfuls of fresh charcoal, and you're ready to go.
