EGG History

Thousands of EGGs after Ed Fisher sold his first one, the Company has experienced remarkable growth. Fisher still marvels that his company has taken a cooking concept virtually unknown in the U.S. and catapulted it to one of the most talked about barbecuing products in the country. The fact that 80 percent of American households barbecue today, with more than half cooking outside year around, bodes well for continued Company growth.

Fisher cites the satisfaction of current EGG® owners and their unbridled enthusiasm and desire to convince everyone they know to cook on an EGG for a good share of the Company's success. These "EGGheads" have been the Company's strongest marketing tool with their effective one-on-one selling to friends and neighbors. Many excellent suggestions for product improvements have come from Big Green Egg owners based on their cooking experiences with the EGG. The Company recognizes the value of these loyal customers and the contributions they make to the success of the Big Green Egg.

Building on its successes, Big Green Egg has made the transition from a small niche manufacturer into a major player in the grill industry. In 2005, The Company moved into a new World Headquarters building in Tucker, Georgia and relocated both its expanded Warehousing Center and a modern new Retail Store to that site.

The EGG has also undergone dramatic changes since the first clay cooker was introduced more than three decades ago. Today it is made with space-age ceramics that were developed specifically for Big Green Egg to make it durable even under extreme weather conditions. The original product, the Large EGG, has now been increased to five sizes ranging from a Mini to an Extra Large. Well over one hundred products have been added to the Big Green Egg line from cooking space extenders, natural lump charcoal, cleaning tools and stainless utensil sets to pizza stones, seasonings, apparel with the BGE logo and instructional DVDs.

The Big Green Egg staff has been expanded significantly from new warehouse personnel to research and development professionals. Many new distributors and dealers have been added to the Big Green Egg network to make it easier for you to find a dealer near you where you can see the EGG and other products first hand.
